Lois Rhead was a poster artist and later a book illustrator. He also illustrated many Children's books by famous publishers of that day ( Harpur). Some well known books such as: Robin Hood, The Swiss Family Robinson, Robinson Crusoe, The Deerslayer, Treasure Island, Kidnapped and Heidi.

Lithography and color printing produced demand for poster art and became the technique of choice for advertising and illustrations of books and magazines across the USA, inspiring costume poster parties.
An intriguing aspect of Lois's life is his passion for fly fishing. He even authored a thorough guide titled American Trout-Stream Insects (1916).
In addition to his writing, he sold fishing tackle and crafted his own flies.
